It was in 1984 when the brilliance of Ken Knutson and James Wanless gave birth to the Voyager Tarot cards, which is founded on the idea of quantum living. This deck is designed specifically for the 21st century tarot card readers. Wanless came up with an epiphany when he was still working as a political science professor. He discovered the wonders of quantum living, where every person is who he was in the past, who he is in the present, and who he will be in the future -- all at the same time.
With the Voyager Tarot deck, he was able to reveal the path to achieving the universe within each individual. This deck was designed according to a standard tarot deck, the Thoth Tarot, but with a few changes in imagery. The Voyager Tarot makes use of striking photo-collages in each laminated card. Instead of the Page as a court card, the deck has the Human family, which is man, woman, child, and sage, act as court cards. He also changed the names of two suits: the Pentacles became the Worlds and the Swords became the Crystals. Some Major Arcana cards were also renamed to manifest each card's energy. The Temperance became the Art; The Devil became Devil's Play; Justice became Balance; Judgment became Time-Space; and The World became The Universe.
The Voyager Tarot also includes a 119-page guidebook where Wanless discusses the different symbols as part of the technique in the journey to the inner universe. He also talks about how tarot card readers can use the cards' primary energies and the various reading methods in gaining self-awareness and self-empowerment.
Wanless says that the Voyager Tarot deck has many uses. Through daily readings, also called "Card-A-Day", readers can use it as their guide to the spiritual path, source of wisdom, tool for storytelling, and healing treatment. He also recommends to use the cards to find answers to questions and to relate the imagery to their personal lives.
